UN and Baghdad remain silent on Makhmur attack

United Nations and Iraqi government remain silent on the Turkish airstrike against Self Defence Forces of Makhmur four days ago. No official from neither the UN nor the Iraqi government visited the site of the bombing.

Turkish attack against Makhmur Refugee Camp in southern Kurdistan on 6 December had killed five members of the Self Defence Forces. Three more were injured.

After the air raid, the People's Council, Makhmur, declared that it expected the UN and the Iraqi central government to take a stand because the camp is under their control.

Even four days after the attack, neither the UN nor the Iraqi central government has commented on or investigated the site of the attack.

Bêwar Ünver of the Refugee Camp's diplomacy committee said a UN representative called and asked for the number of dead and injured. Ünver told RojNews that no one has yet made an investigation on the site of the attack.

Legally Makhmur Refugee Camp is under UN protection. The camp is situated on the outskirts of Makhmur town, which is controlled by Iraqi central government.
