A delegation consisting of the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection, IMPR Humanitarian, the International Red Cross (IRC) and UN Commission in Europe ECHO representatives has visited a camp in Şırnak set up to house Yezidis from Sinjar.
The large delegation carried out a series of meetings with camp officials in order to obtain information regarding the situation of Yezidis in the camp. The delegation took notes as they toured the Martyr Bişenk Camp, consulting Yezidis about what they could do for them before the winter sets in.
GAP Municipalities Union General Secretary Ahmet Ertak, visiting the camp with the delegation, said he had spoken to the members of the delegation regarding how funds sent by organisations were spent and had come to see the situation of the Yezidi refugees at the camp.
Ertak added that, as the representative of the coordination based in Amed, coming to the camp had helped him to understand the situation in Şırnak.
"We have requested assistance from both Europe and the UN for assistance in the camps for Yezidis” said Ertak, adding that they expected short and medium term assistance.
Ertak added that the Kurds had also provided a lot of aid. After completing their observations the delegation left the camp.
