Releasing a written statement on Sunday, Confederation of Public Laborer's Unions (KESK), Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and Union of Turkish Dentists (TDB) announced one-day general strike across the country to protest against the brutal police crackdown against Taksim Gezi Park protestors.
The joint statement by the unions said that; “The AKP government preferred to respond to the dignified reaction of the people with state terror. People asking for their rights and justice were killed and thousands were wounded. The government blockaded the media and launched a smear campaign against the opposition of Turkey's peoples. After failing to break the strong resistance of the people, the government attempted to degrade this resistance into a matter of environmental conscience and to illegalize the public reaction against the widespread police terror and the despotic ruling of the country”.
The unions pointed out that it was Prime Minister Erdoğan who instructed the attacks that trampled on all human values during Gezi Park protests.
The unions said all their members will halt the production and march to central squares across the country today.
