Unity is what matters to Kurds, says PYD official
Following the liberation of a number of towns in Syrian Kurdistan, Nuri Brimo, a senior official from the Kurdish Democratic Party of Syria, told Rudaw that what should matter to Kurds at this stage is unity, saying that the Syrian army, opposition forces and neighboring Turkey all oppose Kurdish rights in Syria.
Brimo made his remarks after reports that forces loyal to the Democratic Union Party (PYD) are controlling the Kurdish areas taken over from President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.
"The important thing is that Kurds are now in control in Syrian Kurdistan and after millennia of Arab domination in those areas. Now Kurds are in charge of their fate," Rudaw quoted Brimo to say.
Brimo then added "We are not in favor of violence. We can succeed in this revolution with minimal cost. The Kurdish people have sacrificed a lot throughout their history while others reaped the benefits".
With the PYD now militarily dominant in parts of Syria, Turkey has grown increasingly worried about the course of events in the country’s Kurdish region.
