21 students, who were detained and transferred to the prosecutor's office today, were released on condition of judicial control. The students, who were welcomed with applause and slogans by their friends and families at the exit of the courthouse, emphasized that they will continue to fight against the imposition of the trustee rector.
The students told about their experiences. One student underlined that young people is the most dynamic force of social struggle today, and added that their homes were raided by the special operations police. The student confirmed that they were beaten and forced to the ground. He added that they had also been strip searched. “They may try to terrorize us, but we are the intellectual and revolutionary face of this society.”
Another student said that they faced state terror in the early morning when police came to their house and added: “We know that these fabricated accusations and trials are farcical, designed to judge us revolutionaries.” The student called out to those who think “they will intimidate us with such ridiculous accusations, detentions and house raids: Revolutionaries – he said - have never bowed to the terror of detention and arrest, they will not bow now.”
Another student said that the problem of the trustee-rector is not only the problem of Boğaziçi but of all universities. “Our houses were raided early in the morning with fake evidences. Yesterday, while waiting for our friends to be released, we were detained in the same way.”
Ezgi Önalan, one of the lawyers who followed the statements given in court by the students, said that they will always side with the students who use their right to democratic protest. Önalan reminded that house raids were carried out with unlawful accusations such as opposing the Law No. 2911 and resisting the police, and stated that during the detention process, students were strip searched and beaten. Explaining that students were beaten on their way to the hospital, Önalan added: “LGBTI people have been subjected to harassment and are still receiving death threats.”
