Up to 22 years in prison sought for HDP MP Ferhat Encü

Up to 22 years in prison has been asked for HDP Şırnak MP Ferhat Encü for whom aggravated life sentence was demanded in a previous investigation and indictment.

Şırnak Public Prosecutor's Office has finalized the investigation against HDP Şırnak MP Ferhat Encü who was jailed on November 4 and put in Kandıra Type F Prison. The indictment prepared by Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by Şırnak 2nd Heavy Penal Court.

In the indictment, up to 22 years in prison is asked for Encü for “organizing and joining unlawful meetings and demonstrations”, “membership to a terrorist organization” and “spreading terrorist propaganda”.

Among the accusations directed at Encü within the scope of his political activities are his participation in demonstrations and activities in Şırnak and its districts in 2015-2016, going to Şırnak's Silopi and İdil districts during curfews, his Twitter posts on human rights violations committed in these areas, and attendance in press conferences in Şırnak at the anniversary of the Roboski massacre.

Encü's participation in a commemoration ceremony for Medeni Yıldırım murdered by Turkish soldiers in Amed's Lice district, and his social media posts on the state's genocidal attacks in North Kurdistan were also added in the indictment as a crime.

In another indictment prepared by Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and accepted by Şırnak 2nd Heavy Penal Court, aggravated life sentence was asked for Encü who was accused of having kicked former Uludere governor Naif Yavuz during his visit to Roboski village on December 31, 2011, right after the massacre.
