US moves troops “out of the path of potential Turkish incursion”

The United States Department of Defense stated yesterday that "we do not endorse a Turkish operation in Northern Syria. The U.S. Armed Forces will not support, or be involved in any such operation".

Jonathan Hoffman, Chief Pentagon Spokesman released a press statement on the current situation with regards to the US troops in northern Syria after the announcement of their withdrawal.

Hoffman said that the Department's position has been and remains that establishing a safe zone in northern Syria is the best path forward to maintaining stability.

“Unfortunately, Turkey has chosen to act unilaterally. As a result we have moved the U.S. forces in northern Syria out of the path of potential Turkish incursion to ensure their safety. We have made no changes to our force presence in Syria at this time,” said the Chief Pentagon Spokesman.
