Veli Encu and four others to remain in prison, Şırnak court rules

Veli Encu, who lost his brother in the Roboski Massacre, on 28 December 2011, was detained and the court ruled for him to remain in prison.

Veli Encu lost his brother Serhat and many relatives in the bombing carried out by Turkish warplanes on 28 December 2011, and resulting in the death of 34 civilians.

Veli Encu was arrested together with former Kumçatı Municipality co-mayor, Mehmet Demir, HDP employees Salih Kerin, Mazlum Guzel and Sehmus Kerin on 24 May 2019 and tried for "being a member of an illegal organization".

The second hearing of the trial was held at Şırnak 1st High Criminal Court.
Following the defense speeches, the court adjourned the hearing to 28 January and ruled to keep the defendants in prison.
