The permanent vigil in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg has resumed after an interruption for a short time because of the pandemic lockdown.
Since June 25, 2012, a permanent vigil for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan has been held in front of the buildings of the Council of Europe and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) in Strasbourg city of France. The vigil had been interrupted only briefly so far by two lockdowns due to the pandemic. Otherwise, activists from all over Europe take turns to supervise the protest action on a weekly basis. Now the action, interrupted by the current lockdown, has been restarted. The vigil takes place seven days a week from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. This week, Ismail Gümüş, Roni Çewlig, Zana Best and Aram Semsûr from Strasbourg took over the action.
European institutions to be reminded of their duty
Brochures and leaflets with texts of Abdullah Öcalan and about his isolation on Imrali are distributed by the activists. They also report on Öcalan's life and struggle. The activists condemn the states involved in Öcalan's abduction and point out the social consequences of Öcalan's isolation. In particular, they call on the Council of Europe, of which Turkey is also a member, and the CPT to act and impose sanctions against Turkey.
