The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil held in front of the Council of Europe (CoE) in France city of Strasbourg since June 25, 2012, continues in its 260th week with the participation of members of the European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E) since Monday.
News agency Yeni Özgur Politika interviewed the KCDK-E administrators to different European countries about the vigil which they said will continue until Öcalan is freed.
Centre of Êzidî Associations Union (NAV-YEK) Co-chair Zerdeşt Günay stated that the Kurdish people have found their path of freedom by following Öcalan and gathering around him. Günay called on all women, men, youths and all elements of society living in Kurdistan and diaspora to take part in the demonstrations for Öcalan's freedom.
Kurdistan Democratic Society in the Netherlands (DEM-NED) Co-chair Aydın Batman emphasized how Öcalan devoted his entire life to the Kurdish people's freedom struggle and added that a series of actions are already prepared for this year to express stronger the demand for Öcalan's freedom, which -he said- is their duty to lead through strongly. Batman called on the Kurdish people and all advocates of peace and freedom to participate in the coming activities for Öcalan's freedom in masses.
Kurdish Democratic Society Centre in Germany (NAV-DEM) Co-chair Tahir Koçer recalled that Öcalan is kept in absolute isolation and held in torture under status of a hostage since 1999. Koçer stated they will continue the struggle until Öcalan's freedom is achieved, as it is a duty destined by historical dimensions for them.
European Kurdish Women’s Movement (TJK-E) administrator Delal Rûbar called the absolute isolation on the leader of the Kurdish people a cause of deep concerns and fears. Rûbar emphasized that the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the European Court of Human Rights and all other European institutions do not perform their duty at all and remarked in turn that the people of Kurdistan will never let up and will keep on expressing their bond to Öcalan.
The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil is held in Robertsau district, which is home to the Council of Europe (CoE), as well as the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the European Parliament (EP), Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and other such institutions. The vigil continues through all 7 days of the week and is the longest-running demonstration held by Kurds without a single day break in between.
The Vigil began on June 25, 2012, and has continued without a pause since then. In every week of the vigil, Öcalan’s thoughts on the struggles of women, Kurds and humanity are promoted. Protestors have reached out to millions of people so far during the vigil that also attracts the attention of tourists visiting Strasbourg.
