Voting has begun in Istanbul

Voting has begun in Istanbul in the re-run of the elections for the Municipality.

Polls opened at 8 am this morning in Istanbul and will close at 5 pm.

Some 31,342 polling stations have been set up in 39 boroughs of Istanbul were 10,560,963 people are entitled to vote.

CHP candidate Ekrem Imamoglu, AKP candidate Binali Yildirim, Saadet Party candidate Necdet Gokcinar, Vatan Party candidate Mustafa Ilker Yucel and 17 independent candidates will compete in the elections.

The elections had been won by CHP candidate Ekrem Imamoglu on 31 March but the ruling AKP party appealed the results and the Supreme Elections Board gave in to the appeal and ordered a re-run of the election.
