Thousands of people across Turkey took to the streets on Friday in commemoration of 34 Kurdish civilians killed in Roboski Massacre which still remains unidentified as one year has been left behind with no progress for the disclosure and trial of the perpetrators.
Protest demos took place in Kurdistan and Turkey to condemn the massacre and to demand justice for victims and their families who still haven't been answered nor apologized for the massacre. The main commemoration ceremony was held in the village of Roboski where the air strike by the Turkish army was carried out on 28 December 2011. Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Human Rights Association (IHD), a number of political parties, unions and NGOs as well as students organizations took the way to the village to display solidarity with the families of victims.
A number of universities, such as Istanbul, ODTÜ, Marmara, Yýldýz Teknik, Ankara, Mimar Sinan, Adýyaman, Siirt , Hakkari, Kafkas, also staged protest demos and released press statements against the AKP government whose leader Recep Tayyip Erdoðan has recently been targeting university students involved in protest demos against the government and academics supporting the rights of students against repression.
Clashes broke out between demonstrators and police in some towns, including Cizre (Þýrnak) where an eleven years-old child was seriously wounded as he was hit on the head by a tear gas bomb thrown by police. The minor who was reported to be facing risks of cerebral bleeding and losing his sight underwent an urgent surgery.
