Hundreds marched in the Şişli district of Istanbul to protest the “wall of shame” being built between Nusaybın and Qamişlo and the recent execution of Kurdish political prisoners in Iran.

The march, which was organized by the BDP’s Women and Youth Parliament, began in front of the Şişli Mosque and moved toward the district headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). Among the attendees of the march were a large number of women from the organization Mothers of Peace Initiative.

Marchers carried signs which read “The mentality of placing mines, wire and walls will not obstruct the women’s revolution,” “Rojava will tear down the wall of shame,” The free youth will tear down the walls and bring freedom to leader Apo and to Kurdistan.” The marchers shouted slogans such as “Long live the Rojava Revolution,” “We will tear down the walls and found a Kurdistan,” “Murderous al-Nusra are the partners of the AKP,” “Long live President Apo,” “A thousand greets to İmrali” and “Everywhere is Rojava, everywhere is resistance.”

A number of people spoke as marchers stopped in front of the police barricade erected in from the AKP’s district headquarters. Zeynep Sedef Demir, a BDP Istanbul Youth and Women Representative, closed the rally with the words:
“It is well known that we will struggle against all the mental and physical walls that are placed before our peoples’ demands for freedom and that we will never back down from this decision. Our people will not be quiet in the face of policies that attempt to divide them and will carry on the struggle in and the rebellion in every area.”
