The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) published the “Consumer Price Index”, or inflation rate, for January 2021, and could not hide the economic crisis heavily affecting Turkey.
According to the figures inflation, increased by 14.97 percent annually and 1.68 percent monthly in January 2021.
The lowest annual increase was registered at 1.35 percent for alcoholic drinks and tobacco, clothing and footwear with 2.12 percent, education with 6.13 percent and communication with 6.32 percent.
Higher inflation was registered for a miscellaneous of goods and services with 24.53 percent, furnishings and household equipment with 23.25 percent and transportation with 21.43 percent were the main groups where high annual price increases were measured in Turkey in January 2021.
Health with 4.25 percent, housing with 3.02 percent and furnishings and household equipment with 2.90 percent were the main groups which registered high monthly increases.
In January 2021, within average prices of 415 items in the index, the average prices of 92 items decreased and the average prices of 30 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 293 items increased.
