Court sentences Former DBP Amed Provincial co-chair to 6 years in jail

Former DBP Amed Provincial co-chair Garip Kandemir was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison.

The verdict hearing of the case filed against Garip Kandemir, the former Amed Provincial co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) was held at Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court.

Kandemir was accused of "being a member of a terrorist organization" due to the activities and actions organized by his party and for his participation in condolence tents between 2018 and 2020.

Kandemir, who had not been in custody, did not attend the hearing which was attended by his lawyer Hanifi Kandemir.

Lawyer Kandemir said that despite the examination of his client's digital materials, there was no evidence of crime.

The court sentenced Garip Kandemir to 6 years and 3 months in prison accusing him of "being a member of a terrorist organization".
