Yazidi man Süleyman Özmen returned to his village in Midyat, province of Mardin after 40 years, was attacked by village guards.
Süleyman Özmen, 63, had to leave his land 40 years ago. Two years ago he began repairing his family's house in order to return to the ruined village of Kfernas (Çayırlı).
Özmen went to his village again last week to continue working on the house but he was attacked by a group of 6 village guards.
The village guards threatened Özmen and told him to leave the village. Özmen, who was exposed to threats before, was also subjected to violence during this attack and the wall he had built was destroyed with a bucket.
Özmen, who received a medical report from Midyat State Hospital, stated that he would complain about the attackers. He said: "These people attacked me. ‘We are the State’, they said and put a gun to my head.”
