Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) and Shengal Women’s Units (YJŞ) announced their balance sheet of war for the past one year in a written statement.

YBŞ/YJŞ Command recalled that thousands of people were killed and enslaved during the ISIS attacks on Shengal on August 3, 2014, after which women and children were kidnapped and sold in markets by the gangs. The statement said “ISIS continued to attack and massacre us Êzidî people over the past three years, during which we developed our self-mobilization and self-defense under the banner of YBŞ and YJŞ in order to liberate Shengal and make the gangs pay for the massacre. Our youths sacrificed themselves without hesitation during the war to liberate Ezidxan. With the hard work of our people and the heroic resistance of YBŞ/YJŞ fighters, we liberated the majority of Shengal.”

'YEAR OF STRUGGLE AND GAINS'

In its statement, the YBŞ/YJŞ Command noted that the ‘Operation to Avenge Êzidî Women’ was launched in order to bring the most ruthless and savage gang groups of the 21st century to account, stressing that thousands of people returned to their lands because of their confidence in the resistance waged in Mount Shengal and self-defense forces that developed in Shengal. The YBŞ/YJŞ Command said “Our operation will continue until entire Shengal is liberated, and we enter 2017 with the trust that we will be liberated with our struggle and take our place in the stage of free societies in history.”

'148 CAPTIVES RESCUED, 255 GANG MEMBERS KILLED'

YBŞ/ YJŞ Command announced that 34 of their fighters fell as martyrs during the clashes in 2016, and all of these martyrs made it to Êzidî history with their determined fight and heroic resistance against the enemy. The command said “During our operations, 148 civilians were rescued from ISIS captivity and reunited with their families and 255 ISIS gangs were killed. We seized the bodies of 160 gang members and repelled hundreds of attacks on liberated areas. We have also seized and destroyed many military equipment and vehicles belonging to the gangs. ”

'AKP DOCUMENTS FOUND ON DEAD ISIS MEMBERS'

YBŞ/ YJŞ Command stated that their units found AKP's documents on some of the dead ISIS gang members, and destroyed 2 earth diggers, 4 car bombs, 2 Hammer vehicles, 1 armored panzer and 2 armored vehicles. 6 12,5 mm DShK rifles were also destroyed during 2016.
