Youth killed by police in Yüksekova
18-year-old Rojhat Özdel was killed by police in Yüksekova district of Hakkari yesterday.
Özdel was critically injured as police staged a crackdown on demonstrators marking the anniversary of the murder of M. Reşit İşbilir, Veysel İşbilir and Bemal Tokçu who had been killed by special operation police in the wake of the demolition of a guerrillas cemetery on 6-7 December 2013.
Rojhat Özdel was rushed to Yüksekova state hospital after sustaining a critical injury as police opened fire on demonstrators near Han petrol station on the Silk Road. The youth couldn't survive despite all the efforts made to rescue him. Özdel's body will be taken to Malatya for an autopsy.
VEDAŞ (Vangölü Electricity Distribution Corporation) worker İlker Aslan was also injured as a tear gas canister fired by police hit a VEDAŞ service car passing by the scene. Aslan was taken under treatment at Yüksekova state hospital.
On the other hand, police units deployed around the hospital with dozens of armored vehicles also attacked the people gathering in the area as Özdel lost his life.
Many patients were effected by tear gas fired by police as some canisters hit inside the hospital.
