YPG fighter Ashley Johnston remembered in Australia

Australian YPG fighter Ashley Johnston who lost his life in Rojava has been commemorated by his grave at the fourth anniversary of his martyrdom in the battle against ISIS.

YPG fighter Ashley Johnston (Serhat Bagok) lost his life during the operation to liberate Til Hemis, Rojava on 23 February 2015. He was laid to rest in Canberra, capital city of Australia, on April 8.

Democratic Kurdish Society Centre (DTKM) organised commemoration for the Australian volunteer to mark the fourth anniversary of his martyrdom.

A speech made on behalf of the organizing committee in the commemoration at the association in Sydney told about Johnston’s struggle during his lifetime.

The committee highlighted Johnston’s humanist identity, recalling that he had learned Kurdish in a short period of time while in Rojava and helped women and children victims of the war.

On the other hand, DTKM members and KNK Sydney representative, alongside Johnston’s mother and sister, visited the grave of the YPG volunteer and left flowers.
