YPG: Gangs dislodged from two emplacements

The YPG Press Centre has issued a statement regarding the resistance in Kobanê, saying that 12 gang members had been killed in clashes on the eastern front which began last night and went on until the morning.

The YPG said after attacks on the southern and south western fronts had been repulsed, the YPG forces had gone on the offensive, removing the gangs from two positions.

The YPG also announced that, in this morning’s clashes, battalion commander Rojda Axin had died.

The YPG Press Centre statement detailed clashes that have taken place in Kobanê in the last 24 hours. The statement said that ISIS gangs had continued to attack Kobanê for the 28th day with the aim of occupying it, and that there had been fierce close quarters clashes on all three fronts between the ISIS gangs and YPG forces. The statement said that the gangs had launched attacks this morning on the eastern front between the town and the border, stressing that the YPG forces’ determined resistance had repulsed the gangs on all fronts. “Heavy blows were inflicted on the gangs,” noted the statement.

‘Attack from two directions repulsed’

The YPG Press Centre statement added that their forces had repulsed a gang attack launched from two directions on the southern front, adding: “After violent face to face clashes, the gangs were dislodged from 2 positions as our forces went on the offensive. As far as our forces could ascertain, 53 gang members were killed and many were wounded. Our forces also seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition and destroyed several heavy weapons and vehicles.”

’12 gang members killed on eastern front’

The YPG said that there had been fierce clashes on the eastern front, in which 12 gang members were killed. “This morning, the gangs launched an attack with a bomb-laden vehicle in the Kaniya Kurda area, but the vehicle was destroyed by our forces before it could reach their positions. Our forces then went on the attack and killed 15 gang members, and seized a machine gun and a B7 rocket launcher. Clashes are continuing on this front.

The YPG said that clashes were also continuing in the Miştenûr area to the south east of the town, and that gang attacks had been repulsed. The statement added that gangs had destroyed a depot belonging to the Kurdish Red Crescent on the southern front after suffering heavy blows.

The statement added that while the YPG and YPJ forces had suffered no losses in clashes last night, in this morning’s fighting valiant battalion commander Rojda Axin had died on the eastern front.
