YPG: Some occupied areas liberated from the gangs

YPG Press Office has issued a written statement reporting about the clashes continuing on the 53th day of ISIS attacks on Kobanê.

YPG said their forces in alliance with Burkan Al-Fırat and the peshmerga, have halted the advance of ISIS and liberated some areas occupied by the gangs. Meanwhile, the gangs continue the mortar attacks targeting the civilians in the town center.

The statement said YPG forces yesterday night launched an operation against the gangs around Kaniya Kurda, Municipality Street and Azadi Square at the eastern front. YPG said: “the gangs have been thrown out of the places they occupied as result of the operation, while our forces advanced one more street in the centre. As far as ascertained, 12 gang members were killed. Our forces seized weapons, gas masks and some documents belonging to the gangs”.

YPG further reported that the clashes that started at the eastern front around noon yesterday continued intensely until the evening. Two motorcycles of the gangs were destroyed, while 7 gang members were killed in the clashes, according to the YPG statement.

“A vehicle of the gangs reinforcing ammunition in the battlefield was destroyed by our forces on the Aleppo road. Two gang members in the vehicle were also killed”, said the YPG Press Centre.

According to the statement, YPG also launched an operation on the points occupied by the gangs at the southern front yesterday night. YPG said the number of the casualties of the ISIS has not yet been verified and added: “Our forces advanced two streets to the south of the city. Early this morning a tank of the gangs was destroyed together with the ammunition loaded on it around the Termik village to the south of Kobanê”.
