Members from the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) together with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on August 13 delivered aid to civilians who have recently returned to their homes in Raqqa’s eastern countryside.
A hundred aid packages supplied by the YPJ and the SDF consisting of food, clothes and hygiene products, were distributed amongst those civilians in critical need of assistance.
Residents from the village of Shahra in east Raqqa gathered in a school in the afternoon where YPJ commander Tekoşîn greeted the attendees, and briefed them on the ongoing fight to liberate Raqqa from Daesh (ISIS).
“We are here to talk about the sensitive time we are in, especially for the women,” said Tekoşîn. “Though small in numbers, these packages will continue on a regular basis,” she added.
The population called on international organizations to help them with daily necessities with their main complaint being the lack of water, food and electricity.
Speaking to senior leaders in the village, the YPJ commander Tekoshin also addressed and emphasized their request for a water supply since the old tanker was destroyed two months ago by Daesh IEDs.
