The "Freedom for Peace” rally will take place in Amed today. Zeki Irmez, DEM Party Şırnak MP, called on everyone to join the call for peace.
The "Freedom for Peace"rally, organized by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), will kick off in a less than a hour in Amed today.
Speaking to ANF about the rally, Zeki Irmez, DEM Party Şırnak (Şirnex) MP, underlined the significance of the process launched on 1 October 2024. "A delegation of our party - Irmez said - has met with Abdullah Öcalan twice so far. Mr. Öcalan approached the process with a genuine commitment to work for a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question. To move this initiative forward, he proposed meetings with opposition parties and civil society organizations. In line with this proposal, the DEM Party is not only organizing rallies but also holding conferences. We are carrying out ‘Conferences for Social Freedom and Peace’ to incorporate the proposals, opinions, and evaluations of the people into this process. Our goal is to advance this process with the direct participation of the public."
The Kurdish people support the process
Irmez continued: "We are holding rallies in three major locations. The first rally took place in Istanbul, where we witnessed the strong support of the people for this process. Today we will hold a rally at Istasyon Square in Amed. For the past few weeks, we have gone into every district together with our MPs and co-mayors, to personally invite the people to the rally. Everywhere we go, people express the urgent need for a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question. They emphasize that Mr. Öcalan, as the key negotiator in this process, must have improved conditions and ultimately gain his physical freedom. This is one of the most critical aspects of the discussion. People say that they are ready to do whatever is necessary for a solution. Amed is a city mobilized with the spirit of resistance, and today, we expect thousands of people to fill Istasyon Square, demanding a democratic and peaceful resolution to the Kurdish issue and freedom for Mr. Öcalan."
'We must take to the streets to embrace this historical process'
Irmez underlined that "this rally holds great significance for the Kurdish people, not only in Turkey but across the Middle East, in securing their rights and freedoms. A process has begun, and in order to support and protect this process, everyone must take to the streets with great dedication and responsibility to fulfill their historical mission."
