Zübeyde Zümrüt: Let's fill the square in Cologne to demand freedom for Abdullah Öcalan

KCDK-E co-chair Zübeyde Zümrüt said: "With the Cologne march, we will bring down the walls of Imrali! We must turn the square in Cologne into a freedom square for Leader Öcalan."

KCDK-E co-chairs Zübeyde Zümrüt and Engin Sever, along with former HDP Amed MP Nursel Aydoğan, attended a gathering in Dortmund, within the framework of the preparation for the march to be held in Cologne on 16 November to demand freedom for Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Zübeyde Zümrüt said: "The Freedom Movement will never give up the achievements it has fought for over fifty years. There is a targeted effort to erase the Kurds' gains, and this is why isolation is being intensified."

Zümrüt reiterated that they would never accept a solution without Leader Apo’s [Abdullah Öcalan] involvement. Zümrüt added: "The Kurdish people must stand up both to protect Rojava and to fight against isolation."

'Mobilization in Europe very important'

Zümrüt underlined the significance of mobilization in Europe, and said: "The struggle in Europe holds huge importance. For forty years, our people here have been actively engaged, often protesting round the clock. However, we are now at the point of seeking solutions. At this stage, our burden is heavy, and we must rise to the responsibility it demands. To physically free Leader Apo, we must turn the square in Cologne into his square of freedom. We need to deliver this message to those enforcing isolation, those complicit in the conspiracy: if you are sincere, then free Leader Apo."

Zümrüt called on “anyone with a conscience, anyone committed to moral justice” to be in Cologne on 16 November, and added: "On that day, we will make a powerful statement defending Rojava. The eyes of the world will be on Deutzer Werft Square in Cologne on 16 November, watching to see how many Kurds in Europe gather and what messages they will send. Just as we shook the Cologne bridge on 15 February, we will now bring down the walls of Imrali and secure Leader Apo's freedom."

In preparation for the march in Cologne, Zübeyde Zümrüt and former HDP MP Idris Baluken held a public meeting in Bochum on Sunday.

KCDK-E co-chair Engin Sever and former HDP MP Nursel Aydoğan spoke at a similar event in Osnabrück.
