A young man tortured to death, five others brutally beaten by the Turkish gendarmerie at border

The number of civilians killed by Turkish border guards (Jandarma) since early 2023 in different areas near the Syria-Turkey border has increased to 19, according to SOHR.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that a young man died under brutal torture by members of the Turkish gendarmerie (military police) after crossing the border via smuggling routes in Shamarin in northern Aleppo countryside. The Turkish forces dumped his body in Syrian territory and the body was found.

Moreover, according to SOHR, five civilians were beaten and tortured by the Turkish gendarmerie and left inside Syrian territory after they were forced to kiss the boots of members of the gendarmerie and insulted in a horrible manner.

According to the observatory, the number of civilians killed by Turkish border guards (Jandarma) since early 2023 in different areas near the Syria-Turkey border has increased to 19. In addition, 28 civilians, including a child and three women, were injured in gunfire by Turkish Jandarma in the same period.
