At least 18 Kurdish politicians and activists detained

The Turkish regime has accelerated its political genocide operations against the Kurdish people and their elected representatives while the whole world is fighting coronavirus pandemic.

As part of an Amed (Diyarbakır) centered operation targeting Kurdish politicians and activists, Turkish police forces have raided a number of houses this morning. Many people were taken into custody during the operation, the basis of which was not disclosed on the grounds of a “restriction” on the file.

At least 18 people were detained during the operations, including 63-year-old Havva (Rabia) Kıran from the Peace Mothers’ Council in Amed. Kıran suffers from high blood pressure and heart trouble and belongs to the risk group due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Names of the politicians and activists arrested in today’s operation are as follows:

Rosa Women’s Association founding members Narin Gezgör and Ayla Akat Ata, Rosa Women’s Association president Adalet Kaya, Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists Gülcihan Şimşek and Zelal Bilgin, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) former co-chair Mehmet Arslan, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Board (MYK) member Özlem Gündüz, HDP Yenişehir district branch co-chairs Remziye Sızıcı and Kasım Kaya, HDP member Mehmet Ali Altınkaynak, Kurdish politicians Celal Yoldaş and Nazile Tursun, Rosa Women’s Association executive Fatma Gültekin, Bağlar Municipal Council members Hüseyin Harman and Gönül Aslan, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipal Council member Selin Coşkun, Yenişehir Municipal Council member Nevriye Çur and Peace Mothers Council member Havva Kıran.
