Foza Yusif: A return to pre-2011 period means suicide for Syria

"A return to the pre-2011 state means suicide for Syria. Erdoğan did not get what he wanted from the US. The attitude of self-government of North and East Syria is clear ", explained Foza Yusif of TEV-DEM.

TEV-DEM (Movement for a Democratic Society) Board Member Foza Yusif spoke to the Mesopotamia News Agency (MA) about the current situation in northern and eastern Syria.

The Ankara Summit between Russia, Iran and Turkey on 16 September was a continuation of the Astana format, which focused on setting up a constitutional committee for Syria, Foza Yusif said and continued: “This committee, however, is not to include the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. The summit focused on eliminating the autonomous administration and continuing a ceasefire in Idlib. It looks like that the three participating states oppose a democratic change and are committed to the nation-state system in Syria. A return to the period before 2011 is wanted. For Syria, that means suicide.”

Erdoğan wanted to have the occupation approved

Commenting on the speech of Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan to the UN General Assembly in New York, which he accompanied with maps and pictures, Foza Yusif said: "Erdoğan had hoped for Trump's permission to invade northern and eastern Syria. As far as we could track it, his wish has not been fulfilled. He will continue to interpret the issue of border security at his own discretion. This situation will by no means be accepted by the autonomous administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)."

Foza Yusif referred to Erdoğan's expansionist policy and said: "He is in a confused situation. Above all, he wants to regain the political power that he has lost in the local elections in Turkey. For this he needs a ‘success’. A military operation in northern Syria is not outlandish. With the refugees, the demographic structure is to be changed. The attitude of the autonomous administration to this is clear, such an act will be strictly rejected.”
