Women's Civil Defense Forces (HPC-JIN) in North-East Syria held its second congress in Heseke on Monday under the motto "With the self-sacrificing spirit of the Hediye, Yusra and Jiyan, we will fight the revolutionary people's war, break isolation, and guarantee victory.”
The conference was attended by representatives of the YPJ (Women’s Defense Units), women’s institutions in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and members of the HPC-JIN.
Delivering the opening speech, YPJ General Command Member Rohilat Efrîn remembered the revolutionary martyrs and said: “As the spark of the Rojava revolution, HPC-JIN was the basic defensive force of the revolution.
“The HPC-JIN has been the spark and the basic defensive force of the Rojava revolution. We will follow in the footsteps of the mothers and daughters who fell defending the sacred lands of the country until we realize their dreams and goals,” she said.
TEV-DEM (Movement for a Democratic Society) Co-Chair Ruken Ehmed spoke after the reading of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan’s evaluations on women and self-defense.
Remembering the martyrs of the revolution, Ruken Ehmed said: “The comrades whose pictures are hung in this hall today fell as martyrs whilst fighting to defend this land and its gains.”
Ehmed paid tribute to HPC members Fatima and Mother Hoger, who were martyred whilst confronting the Turkish occupation attacks against Afrin in 2018. She called for the values of martyrs and gains of the revolution to be embraced in order for the attacks against the region to be frustrated.
Kongra Star Coordination Member Welida Botî stated: “We are going through a very immense and fragile process. Seeking to defeat our struggle through all forms of attacks, the enemy aggravates the isolation of Leader Abdullah Öcalan and escalates its attacks against our regions. For this very reason, we are supposed to break the isolation imposed on our leader and protect our territories.”
After the speeches, the activities and organizational reports of HPC-JIN were read out and discussions were held on the charter of the organization.
The conference concluded with decisions highlighting the importance of self-defense for women.
