Internal Security Forces arrest three drug dealers in Raqqa

An Asayîş team has arrested three men in Raqqa who were involved in drug trafficking. Kilos of hashish plates and thousands of Captagon pills were confiscated.

A team from the Asayîş (Internal Security Authority) anti-drug unit has arrested three men in Raqqa who are involved in drug trafficking. As the Internal Security Authority in the autonomous region of Northern and Eastern Syria said on Thursday, the men were traveling in the city the day before when officers stopped their vehicles after prior observation. During the check, they found more than 240 shrink-wrapped hashish plates and 6,200 Captagon pills.

According to the Asayîş, the drugs have a street value in the high six-figure range. The suspects are currently still in custody and will only be handed over to the judiciary of the Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration after the investigation has been completed. They must prepare for a trial before the People's Court, the Internal Security Forces said.

The Asayîş regularly takes action against the production, sale and smuggling of drugs. According to the authorities, in 2023 alone there were 1,946 operations against suspected manufacturers, dealers and smugglers, but also consumers. Around 3,300 people were arrested.
