OCCUPATION OF AFRIN

Kongra Star Assembly issued a written statement on the anniversary of the occupation of Afrin.

The statement released by Kongra Star on Sunday reads as follows:

"We strongly condemn the sixth anniversary of the occupation of Afrin and we respectfully commemorate the martyrs Tekoşin, Barin, Avesta, Karker, Rojhats and thousands of resistance fighters and freedom fighters. On January 20, the occupying Turkish state bombed Afrin in a brutal attack with 72 warplanes. The invasion of Afrin is part of the international conspiracy against the leader. In this region of Rojava, the Leader taught and organized the philosophy of free coexistence. That is why the entire Afrin region was bombed, the civilian population, children, women, the elderly were targeted, all the infrastructure necessary for life was bombed. The international and security council, human rights institutions and all institutions remained silent on this occupation. A historic 58-day resistance was organized against these attacks. As a result, the displaced Afrin residents settled in Shehba and did not move away from the resistance. The people of Afrin, organized in the second phase of the Resistance of the Age, continue to resist in the camps despite limited means.

As Kongra Star, we once again strongly condemn the occupation of Afrin and call on the United Nations and the international community to put pressure on the occupying Turkish state to end its brutal actions and withdraw from all regions.

We pledge that we will raise the level of struggle with the idea and philosophy of the Democratic Nation based on the brotherhood of peoples, the ideology of liberating women and protecting the line of free women, that we will continue to resist in Afrin, Serekaniyê and Girê Spî until we defeat the occupation and the peoples return to their places, and that we will follow the path of the martyrs to the end."
