Mahmud Mihemed Nur Salîh (61) is an exemplary person in terms of spreading self-defence awareness in Sheikh Maqsoud Neighbourhood of Aleppo, making the community more aware of security, enabling individuals to protect themselves and increasing social solidarity. Mahmud still ensures the security of his neighbourhood at the checkpoint he established with his own hands in 2013.

Between 2013 and 2016, Aleppo's Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsud) neighbourhood was besieged by Damascus government forces and gangs affiliated with the Turkish state and was subjected to severe attacks. The people put up strong resistance against these attacks and broke the attacks. The residents of the neighbourhood draw attention to the organisation of 61-year-old Mahmoud Mihemed Nur Salîh when it comes to self-defence in order to protect themselves and be prepared for dangers.

Mahmud Mihemed Nur Salîh, popularly known as Abu Mihemed, is from the Jindires district of Afrin and lives in Aleppo, where he was born and raised. In 2013, he joined the Sheikh Maqsoud resistance and showed his determination to protect his land and people. Before the attack on Sheikh Maqsoud, Mahmud worked as a mechanic and lived a happy life with his family in the neighborhood. In 2012, when the war was approaching, he did not leave Sheikh Maqsoud and protected his land and neighbourhood with the checkpoint he established with his own hands. The checkpoint is still known as Abu Mihemed's checkpoint.  

Mahmud still stands at the checkpoint, emphasising the importance of self-defence. Mahmoud stated that in the past they took self-defence measures to ensure the security of the residents of the neighbourhood, and stressed that this understanding should be permanent, not temporary. Mahmoud, who still acts with a sense of responsibility towards his land, his people and his neighbourhood, expresses the importance of sacrifice and self-defence at every opportunity.
