The Raqqa Civil Assembly Health Committee and Cancer Society opened the Oncology department at Raqqa National Hospital. Cancer patients will receive free health services in this department.
Members of the Health Committee, representatives of the Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration, representatives of the Raqqa Civil Council, members of the Martyrs' Families Council and oncology department doctors attended the opening ceremony of the oncology department.
Speaking at the opening, Raqqa Civil Assembly Health Committee co-chair Eli El Musrif said: "After more than 10 years of work, we have provided the first medicines for patients today."
Musrif thanked the Health Association, the Syrian Cancer Society and everyone who supported the opening of the department, and added that they started to accept patients as of Wednesday and they will provide free healthcare services.
Hemdan El Ebid, co-chair of the Executive Council of the Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration, said that the opening of this section is a historic achievement for the people of Raqqa. El Ebid thanked the Health Committee and all the employees who worked hard to make this happen.
The door of the oncology department was officially opened by Martyr Şiyar Kobanê's mother, Sediqa Eli Daban.
In the oncology department, 24 people, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, will work. There is also a laboratory and x-ray equipment. Now there are 10 thousand needles in this section.
The oncology department at Raqqa National Hospital is the only department to serve Northern and Eastern Syria.
Before this department was opened, cancer patients in Northern and Eastern Syria went to Damascus for treatment. In addition to the expenses, the patients were also exposed to pressure from the security forces of Damascus.
