Thousands of people living in Qamishlo city of northern Syria took to the streets on Thursday to protest against Turkish military offensive seeking to invade the region.
Masses from Arab, Syriac, Kurdish, Armenian and Yazidi communities, young and old alike, staged a march from the Martyr Rûbar Junction to the UN Representation in the city.
“No Erdoğan fascism”, “We don’t want invaders on our lands”, “Murderer Erdoğan”, “Long live the fraternity of peoples”, “Long live the YPG/YPJ resistance” chanted the masses during the march.
Commending the resistance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the people against Turkish invasion, Cizire Region Executive Council Co-president Talat Yûnis said the following;
“The genocidal attacks of the Turkish state and allied mercenaries have continued for 8 days. The occupant Turkish army is using sophisticated technology and prohibited weapons in the ongoing offensive. The silence of international powers and human rights organizations helps the Turkish state increase its blatant attacks. The children of this people promised to defend their lands against attacks and the people of the region promised to increase the struggle. This stand of the people and fighters is a great victory itself against violent attacks. The occupant Turkish army has made no advance in Serêkaniyê for 9 days thanks to the resistance of SDF fighters. Our resistance and our stand are the victory of the project for democracy and equality in Syria. We call upon human rights organizations to fulfil their moral duties and oppose the attacks.”
Speaking after, Defence Commission Executive Board Member Hediya Şêx Hesen said that; “The Turkish state is attacking the civilian people to ultimately annihilate them all. The enemy that kills children targets our peaceful co-existence. We, however, will not allow the Turkish army and their mercenaries to enter our lands. Our resistance and struggle will continue to the end.”
