The Movement for Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) in North-East Syria released a statement about the Syrian Democratic Forces’ Operation Security Reinforcement launched against ISIS cells in the Deir ez-Zor region late on 27 August night. The offensive, conducted in cooperation with the international anti-ISIS coalition, aims to track down and root out terror cells in order to stop potential attacks. The background is an increase in ISIS attacks against the civilian population, security personnel and local government employees. The operation is also directed against organised crime and smuggling networks. The area of operation includes areas east of the Euphrates, but primarily the Deir ez-Zor region in eastern Syria.
Remarking that dictator and fascist systems were competing in North-East Syrian regions, TEV-DEM pointed to increasing attempts to jeopardize the security of the region and employment of any and all methods by these forces to achieve their goals.
TEV-DEM said that these forces targeted the stability and security of the region and sought to create denominational and national conflicts to pit the peoples in the region against one another. According to TEV-DEM, these forces use the ISIS mercenaries’ terrorist attacks for their own interests in line with the invading Turkish state's neo-Ottoman mindset.
The statement stressed that the Syrian and Iranian states focused on the region of Deir ez-Zor, seeking to capture it. According to TEV-DEM, the Iranian state wants to expand its hegemony and aims to gain dominance over Deir ez-Zor.
While the SDF operation continues, the Turkish state has increased its attacks against North-East Syria without discrimination between civilians and military forces, said TEV-DEM and added that the goal of the ongoing attacks, which leave a number of people dead or injured, is to expand the occupation.
Saluting the SDF and the resistance of its fighters who have mobilized all their means to ensure the security and stability of the region, TEV-DEM offered its condolences to the families of the fallen fighters and wished a speedy recovery to those wounded.
TEV-DEM stated that Kurdish and Arab tribes, as well as all political parties and non-governmental organizations have expressed their support for the SDF since the launch of the operation, showing what true unity means.
“It is the children of Kurds, Arabs and other peoples who sacrifice their lives without hesitation whilst putting up great resistance against the conspirators who target the unity and fraternity of the peoples in the region. We should enhance our unity and strengthen our support for our children in the ranks of the SDF. We should make use of opportunities to safeguard this revolution which represents the will of peoples, and we should organize stronger. We have great missions and responsibilities for our values and gains. We started with hope, and we will win with hope.”
