Young artists of the Rojava Revolution

Culture and art centers in Rojava raise the children of the future with their culture. Artist Zînê Ehmed is one of those who grew up in these institutions.

Zînê Ehmed, who started art with music, is also a theater actress. She plays the role of Dîlan, who represents Kurdish culture, in the TV series Evîna Kurd.

Zînê Ehmed, who was involved in artistic works at Aram Tîgran Culture and Art Center in 2018, was discovered at an event held at her school when she was younger. She was especially influenced by Awazê Çiya, and their song Awazek Tê is her favourite. She continued to sing amateurishly until 2018. With the suggestion of a friend, she got involved in cultural and artistic activities.

The heritage of the dengbêjs

Ehmed said that the dengbêjs are the voice of the silent, and added: "The dengbêjs have brought the truth to the present day by singing experiences and history. It is a type of music that somehow shows people the importance of knowing and understanding their culture and history. It expresses social reality. It also plays an important role in raising the awareness of society. We can easily see Kurdish customs and traditions, history, persecution and suffering inflicted on Kurds in the kilams of the dengbêjs. These reasons were a big factor in my choosing to study dengbêjî."

Artists started to educate

Wanting to be a great artist who would appeal to the feelings, thoughts and culture of the Kurdish society, Ehmed first set out with music to realize her dream, and then she took a step into acting in theater and TV series. Involved in cultural and artistic activities at the age of 12, she is a member of the Martyr Yekta Herekol Theater Group, a children's theater group. Developing gradually in acting, she joined the Martyr Hêvî Theater Group, which trained the children of the Martyr Yekta Herekol Theater Group in acting.

Ehmed played the role of a young woman named Dîlan in the TV series Evîna Kurd, which tells about the Rojava Revolution.

Women as a leading force

Emphasizing the importance of art and women's participation in art, Zînê Ehmed said: "Considering the social reality, it was not pleasant and accepted for women to take part in art. The importance of art to society was not known, art was ignored. The truth that society and art cannot be separated from each other has not fully emerged yet, but we need to see how far we have come as we enter the 12th year of the revolution. The revolution now trains its artists. Children and adults take their place in artistic works. The bond between art and society is getting stronger. Culture is added to the list of indispensable things for a society. Just as women led the revolution, women are leading the culture and art revolution right now."
