YPG fighter Dilbîrîn Amed lost his life in an accident. He was part of the Kurdish liberation movement for many years and had been fighting against ISIS in Shengal and Rojava since 2014.
According to the press office of the People's Defence Units (YPG), fighter Dilbirîn Amed died in an accident in Shaddadi on 25 October 2023.
Dilbirîn Amed, whose real name was Hamdullah Toprak, was born in Amed (tr. Diyarbakir). According to the YPG, he joined the Kurdish liberation movement in 2008 and fought in various areas of Kurdistan. Like thousands of other people, he came to Rojava in 2014 to defend the region against the attacks of ISIS supported by the Turkish state. During the ISIS attack on the Yazidi community in Shengal, he was one of the fighters who cleared an escape corridor to Rojava and saved the lives of thousands of people. After the liberation of Kobanê in 2015, he took part in liberation offensives until the crushing of the ISIS caliphate in spring 2019.
The YPG paid tribute to Dilbirîn Amed, whom it described as a revolutionary who took responsibility and fought actively even in the most difficult times. "Comrade Dilbirîn was modest and meticulous, and he was known for giving morale to his fellow fighters. He was loved and respected everywhere, had made serving his people his principle and led a fighting life until the end," said the YPG in their obituary and expressed its condolences to the family of the fallen fighter, the people of Amed and the Kurdish people.
