100 reasons: Women demand the release of Leyla Güven

In several cities in Germany and the Netherlands, women protested against the arrest of Kurdish politician Leyla Güven in Turkey. The actions took place as part of the campaign "100 reasons to condemn the dictator".

In Berlin, Duisburg, Hanover, Freiburg, Hamburg and Amsterdam, women again took to the streets to protest the arrest of Kurdish politician Leyla Güven in Turkey. The actions took place as part of the campaign "100 reasons to condemn the dictator" initiated by the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E).

Berlin

At a rally organised by the DEST-DAN Women's Council in the German capital, participants demanded that Erdogan be brought to justice for his crimes. In a speech, Gisela Rhein listed reasons for this, citing, for example, the occupation of Afrin and the murder of the three Kurdish revolutionaries Sakine Cansız, Leyla Şaylemez and Fidan Doğan in Paris on January 9, 2013. Another issue was the arrest of Leyla Güven. Parallel to the enumeration of reasons, signatures were collected for the campaign.

Duisburg

Duisburg Women's Council Asya Yüksel held a rally in front of the main train station. Amara Tolhildan said in a speech: "As women, we fight against the campaign of annihilation proclaimed against us by dictators. All over the world, totalitarian, far-right, fascist, conservative and sexist politicians and leaders are attacking women's struggles and achievements."

Tolhildan referred to the women murdered around the world and the Erdogan regime's war crimes in Kurdistan. She also condemned the arrest of Leyla Güven and called for the release of all political prisoners. Signatures were collected on the sidelines of the rally.

Hanover

In Hanover, signatures were collected at a tent.

Further demonstrations were organised by Nuda Women's Council in Freiburg, by Rojbin Women’s Council and Women Defend Rojava in Hamburg. In Amsterdam, women demanded the immediate release of Leyla Güven at a demonstration in front of the Turkish consulate.
