The 8th Women's Literature and Art Festival promoted by the Cizre Region Culture and Art Committee kicked off in Qamishlo.
The festival, held at the Mihemed Şêxo Culture and Art Center in Qamishlo, started on Wednesday and ends today.
The festival is divided into three parts and includes sections such as support and cultural heritage activities, painting, literature, theater and cinema.
The festival started with a painting exhibition organized by the Serdem Art Group. Axîn Siwêd, co-chair of the Cizre Region Democratic Autonomous Administration Executive Council, spoke about the importance of the festival and said: “Women's struggle is tough and they face many obstacles. With unity and solidarity, we will overcome all obstacles, achieve our freedom and win our rights."
Botan Hoşî, a member of the organization committee of the festival, said that all art and literature representing women and their reality will take place at the festival and added: "The festival will be colored with the colors of spring and will bear the stamp of women. Due to the earthquake disaster that hit our region in February, we decided that there would be no songs and halay at the festival."
On Wednesday, the play "Jin, jiyan" by the Darsin women's theater team was performed. Several poets recited poems and short stories in Arabic and Kurdish. The first day ended with the screening of the film Berbu by Sevinaz Evdike.
Today the organizers will award women for different cultural achievements.
