The Democratic Alevi Women’s Union issued a written statement condemning the attacks on peoples and faiths in Syria, and calling for widespread participation in an event to be held on 4 January in Strasbourg.
The Democratic Alevi Women’s Union said: "Let us raise our voices for justice and rights. Let's unite against oppression," and underlined that "the Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria, during these challenging times, has upheld the people’s will for self-governance protecting historical and cultural values." However, the statement warned that attacks by groups like HTS (Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham) and similar organizations pose a serious threat to these achievements.
Rojava: a women’s revolution
In the statement, the transformation in Rojava was described as a 'Women’s Revolution,' following the philosophy of 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadî' (Women, Life, Freedom) spreading from Rojava to the world. “These barbaric attacks are not just an assault on this region but on the shared values of humanity as a whole,” said the statement.
Call to attend event in Strasbourg
The statement invited women’s organizations, faith-based groups, international human rights organizations, and all advocates for freedom and peace to attend the 4 January event in Strasbourg.
The statement said: "By standing united, we can overcome this inhuman cruelty. With our unwavering belief in justice, peace, and solidarity, we call on all peoples and faiths to join this struggle. To remain silent in the face of massacres is to become complicit in the crime. Now is the time to rise, organize, and defend ourselves."
