Hesen: Kurdish unity advances under women’s leadership

Bêrîvan Hesen says that Kurdish unity is progressing through women’s leadership.

The First Rojava Kurdish Women’s Conference was held on 23 March in Qamishlo’s Azadî Park under the slogan 'Kurdish national unity is being achieved through the leadership of Kurdish women.' The event brought together around 300 delegates.

Bêrîvan Hesen, a member of the Presidential Council of the Rojava Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), shared her reflections on the conference with our agency.

Hesen told ANHA that the conference addressed several important topics, including the political situation in the region and the current developments in Syria, and added: "As Kurdish women, we must evaluate our position in the face of the plans being implemented in Syria. It is necessary to clearly express our demands and rights in the new Syria. This phase is crucial for us."

Hesen emphasized that the revolutionary achievements in Northern and Eastern Syria were made possible through the leadership of women, and added: "Women have led the struggle in political, military, economic, social, and organizational fields."

Hesen underlined that preparations for the congress are still ongoing. She said: "Women participated in the Kurdish Women’s Conference with determination and great hope. The main purpose of the conference is to lead the way towards Kurdish national unity."

Hesen continued: "Syria has long been known for its cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity." She emphasized the importance of such conferences in paving the way for a peaceful and free life in which all communities are respected and no group is excluded or marginalized.

Hesen said that the desire of Kurdish women is to achieve Kurdish unity and to fulfill the hopes and goals of the Kurdish people, as well as the legacy of the martyrs. She concluded her remarks by saying: "We must learn from the Kurdish uprisings that failed time and again due to internal division. Today, there is a real opportunity to achieve Kurdish unity under the leadership of women. The spirit of unity among women will be a decisive factor in empowering all women in Syria to shape their own future."
