JXK action against femicide in Turkey and worldwide

Activists of the student association JXK protested in Mainz against femicide in Turkey and worldwide.

Activists of the student association JXK protested against femicide in Mainz city of Germany. "Every day, women all over the world are murdered or experience male violence. In Turkey, up to three women are murdered every day", the activists said, blaming Turkish government policy for the increasing misogynist violence. Perpetrators of violence often go unpunished, and currently even the cancellation of the Istanbul Convention against violence against women is under discussion, they noted.

In order to draw attention to this, the names of women who have been murdered by their husbands, boyfriends or ex-partners in recent weeks were mentioned. The activists held photos of the women in their hands and said: "The ideology of patriarchy is designed to institutionalize violence against women and to deepen the culture of violence. As JXK we say stop to femicide and rape. Violence against women must stop all over the world!"

The action met with lively interest and conversations developed between the activists and passers-by.

JXK - Women Students from Kurdistan

The JXK (Women Students from Kurdistan) is the women's organization of the Association of Students from Kurdistan (YXK). In it, schoolgirls, students, trainees and workers who are feminist or politically active are organized. The goal of the YXK is a grassroots democratic, ecological, economically just and gender-free society. The organisation sees itself as part of the Kurdish women's movement, saying: "As Kurdish women living in the diaspora, we are not only confronted with patriarchal and capitalist conditions, but also with a strong assimilation and criminalization of our multi-layered identities. The JXK is open to all women who want to join our struggle against patriarchy."
