Pointing out that Güven has reached a critical point in the hunger strike as to her health, the Women's Peace Initiative called on all human rights defenders, especially women, to take action and urge to remove the isolation imposed on Öcalan.
The Swedish Women's Peace Initiative saluted, in a written statement, HDP deputy Leyla Güven, who has been on a hunger strike for 67 days.
The statement called on all those who defend human rights and peace to support Leyla Güven's demand.
Women, workers and the Kurdish people, said the statement, have risen their voice against the genocidal policies of Erdoğan and the Turkish state, from the prisons where they are held.
Writing about the hunger strike carried out by Leyla Güven, the statement said she is “carrying out one of the most honorable resistance with her female identity. As of today, she has been on hunger strike for 67 days, demanding the removal of the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan.”
The statement continued: “This action which shouts out from prison the tradition of resisting women from Maraş to Gezi, from Shengal to Kobanê and Afrin, was essentially launched with the demand of ending the isolation regime imposed on PKK leader Öcalan, but functions at the moment as a general action raising the democracy struggle in Turkey.”
As a matter of fact, said the statement “at least 226 political prisoners in Turkey joined the hunger strike initiated by Leyla Güven. This situation clearly reveals that the event should be looked at through the lens of the more comprehensive struggle for democracy and freedom.”
