Terrible tally of violence against women in South Kurdistan

A total of 1.532 cases of violence against women were recorded in South Kurdistan in January and February.

The Center Against Violence Against Women and the Family General Administration announced the tally for violent incidents that were recorded in South Kurdistan in January and February. The first two months of 2019 saw an increase when compared with the same period the previous year.

The recorded incidents of violence against women in the Federal Kurdistan Region are as follows:

-5 women were murdered

-7 women committed suicide

-36 women were burned

-12 women allegedly self-immolated

-1.446 complaints recorded

-26 cases of violence and sexual abuse

Hewler and Raperin were at the top of the list for femicides, while Soran saw the most female suicides. Burnings and sexual abuse were seen more frequently in Sulaymaniyah, while Hewler was the city where the most women filed complaints.
