TJA responded to the arrest of Leyla Güven emphasizing that the AKP-MHP government is building a fascist legal system. "The Kurds and women declared it null and void," said TJA.
The Free Women's Movement (TJA) made a written statement regarding the arrest of Leyla Güven, co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), with a 22-year prison sentence.
The TJA statement titled “We're not going anywhere! We are here, we continue to resist!’’ pointed out that the politicized judiciary continues to pursue the fascist government's policies as a "means of revenge". TJA stressed that the AKP-MHP government is building a new fascist legal system and using it as a "means of revenge".
The statement included the following:
“This revenge started with a judicial process called “KCK trial” initiated by pro-FETO prosecutors. The AKP-MHP fascist bloc sentenced our friend Leyla to 22 years sentence in prison to take revenge. While there has still been an appeal process to higher tribunals, she was arrested and exiled to Elazığ Prison after she was taken into custody in a night raid as if she was kidnapped.
Leyla acted as DTK co-chair, resisted the Imrali isolation with her body in the prison, played a leading role and became the symbol of the Kurdish people, the free women's struggle to break this isolation. This is what the government cannot accept.
We have already expressed that we do not recognize this decision. The Kurds and women declared it null and void. The conditions of war and isolation imposed by the state on the Kurdish issue primarily target us, women.
Let the government pay attention to the prisons, rather than take revenge on Kurdish politicians. It should listen to the demands of society.
The government should understand that very clearly: we are right. We do not recognize the decisions of a male dominated system and judiciary.
From Leyla Qasım to Leyla Güven, these lands have raised thousands of the likes of Leyla. We reiterate that we will establish our women's freedom system. This repression will never discourage us. As our friend Leyla said; we are here, we are not going anywhere!”
