DEM Party Karakoçan co-mayors waiting to take over the municipality

DEM Party Karakoçan Municipality co-mayors took their certificates and went to the municipality, but the former AKP mayor had left.

DEM Party Karakoçan Municipality co-chair Cafer Oğur said that although they received their certificate of registration, they have not yet signed the documents in the municipality.

The Karakoçan (Dep) Municipality in Elazığ was won by the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) with 36.82 percent of the votes.

The co-mayors candidates Songül Düzgün and Cafer Oğur received 2,925 votes. A trustee was appointed to the municipality in 2014, and in the local elections in 2019, the AKP won with 48.1 percent of the votes.

Speaking to ANF, DEM Party Karakoçan Municipality co-mayor Cafer Oğur said that although they received their certificates, they have not yet signed the documents in the municipality, and that lawyers will examine what is left behind.

Oğur stated that the mayor did not dare to confront them when they received the certificate of registration, adding: “He did not even shake our hands. He just left. They wanted to hand over the municipality to us with their own officials. Of course, we took over the municipality, but we have not yet signed the debts left to us and the pile of problems left to us. We will sign after we have checked everything. On the other hand, if our people do not protect their rights in this process, they will attack with a new trustee. Our people must always be alert.”
