DEM Party MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder said: "I am more hopeful now than I was in previous processes. We will make a comprehensive statement in the new year about our meeting with Öcalan.
DEM Party MP and deputy speaker of the Parliament Sırrı Süreyya Önder met with Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali on 28 December. He visited Öcalan together with Pervin Buldan. The two DEM Party MPs issued a first short statement about the content of their meeting.
On Monday, Önder confirmed that they did not provide detailed information to the press because of the sensitivity of the current process. Önder said: "We will not be able to provide information to the press until the process reaches certain maturity," and added: "This does not mean hiding anything; it is a requirement of respect for the meetings we will be holding."
Önder continued: "If I were to pronounce a single sentence, I would say that I am much more hopeful than I was during old processes. This is an era of brotherhood and peace. We will make a comprehensive statement as a delegation in the new year."
