A group of Kurdish artists in Europe is organizing the First Afrin Fine Art Festival in Essen, with the participation of more than 150 painters from many parts of the world.
A group of Kurdish artists and intellectuals in Europe launched the First Afrin Fine Art Festival in August 2023. So far, 150 paintings have been received from four parts of Kurdistan, Arab countries, Africa and Europe.
The Turkish state's crimes against the occupied Afrin Canton, the violations against the citizens in the canton and the attempt to change the demographic structure will be exposed at the festival through painting.
An expert committee consisting of painters was formed to evaluate the paintings. The examination of the works would be carried out in 3 stages. As a result of these processes, the best 4 paintings will be selected and awarded. The winning painters will also receive a certificate of participation at the exhibition to be held in Essen, on 4 November.
Îsmaîl Derwîş, press officer of the festival, told ANHA that many cultural and artistic events related to Afrin will be organized at the festival.
Zozan and Armanc folklore halay groups and artists from Afrin and Kobanê will be performing on 4 November.
Derwîş said that the festival will be open to all minorities, religions and cultures in order to draw attention to the reality in Afrin.
He said that they aim to support talented Kurdish youth through the festival.
The preparation committee said it aims at turning the festival into a yearly appointment.
