1st Düsseldorf Kurdish Film Festival ends with award ceremony

The 1st Düsseldorf Kurdish Film Festival ended with the award ceremony on Sunday.

On the last day of the festival, Mano Khalil's film "Cîran" (Neighbours) was selected for the Yılmaz Güney Film Award, while Maria Binler's documentary "Eren" received the Human Rights Award. Reger Azad Kaya won the Halil Dağ Resisting Cinema award with his film "Gava Şiril Mezin Dibin".

The documentary "Hêza", directed by Derya Deniz, received the "Jîna Emînî Award".

Four awards were given in the short film category at the festival.

Bêrîvan Saruhan received the award in the Bakur category for her work "Stêrka li Ser Xetê". Gulê Welat was awarded the prize for the Rojava category for her work "Xewn", Azhin Kawa was awarded the Bashur prize for "Paths" and Seyed Payam Hosseini with "Russian Vodka" was awarded in the Rojhilat category.

"Berbû" by Sevinaz Evdikê closed the festival

The closing film of the festival was "Berbû" (Wedding parade). Sevinaz Evdikê went to Düsseldorf from Rojava as a special guest of the festival.

Evdikê said: "There is a great struggle going on. Very heavy prices are being paid. Our hope is to reach the days when mothers will no longer shed tears."
