Kurdish cultural gathering in Berlin

A cultural gathering in Berlin brought the Kurdish community closer together through music, sports, games, and community activities. Among the participants was DTK co-chair Berdan Öztürk.

A cultural gathering of the Kurdish community took place in Berlin on Sunday. The event in Volkspark Friedrichshain was organized by the Dest-Dan Hêvî Women's Council and Nav-Berlin. The aim of the event was to bring Kurds living in the German capital closer together through music, sports, games, and community activities.

The program, which began in the morning and attracted numerous visitors, also featured a speech by DTK (Democratic Society Congress) co-chair Berdan Öztürk.

In his speech, Öztürk referred to the Turkish government's so-called “Collapse Plan”, which was developed by Ankara as a military and political strategy to destroy Kurdish society while the dialogue process with Abdullah Öcalan was still ongoing between 2013 and 2015. The aim of this approach, he said, was to “eliminate the identity, culture, and social existence of the Kurdish people.”

“But a lot has changed in the past ten years. Resistance by Kurds in all four parts of Kurdistan—in Bakur, Rojava, Başûr, and Rojhilat—as well as in the diaspora has caused this plan to fail. In the end, those who wanted to destroy us knocked on Imrali's door themselves,” he said, referring to Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and his role in peace processes.

Öztürk emphasized that it is uncertain whether the process will move forward, adding: “However, one thing is clear: Abdullah Öcalan has given the process a significant chance. It was perhaps the last opportunity. What will happen now depends on the degree of our organization and resilience. Success will belong to the Kurdish people.”

The cultural event was accompanied throughout the day by musical performances, sports competitions, and various informational offerings. The organizers were pleased with the turnout and announced further activities for the coming months.
