Organized annually by the Kurdish Women’s Union in Switzerland (YJK-S), the women’s festival held in memory of Sakine Cansız will take place for the 12th time on June 28 this year.
The festival will be held at the Kasernenareal in Zurich under the slogan: “Defend Women’s Achievements with Jin, Jiyan, Azadî.” It aims to build democratic organization through the slogan: “With Jin, Jiyan, Azadî, we are building democratic organization.”
YJK-S issued a written statement inviting everyone living in Switzerland, especially women, to participate in the festival.
Defend women's achievements with Jin, Jiyan; Azadî
The statement by YJK-S highlighted the historic call made by Abdullah Öcalan on February 27, urging women to intensify the struggle. "War policies imposed by hegemonic forces in the Middle East target women, children, and peoples. While the male-dominated system’s colonial and destructive practices aim to suffocate the moral and political fabric of society, our Leader’s call has become a path of resistance and hope for the peoples.
The construction of a democratic society is only possible through the organized leadership of women with a revolutionary-socialist spirit. In this spirit, we organize the 12th Sakine Cansız Festival under the slogan ‘Defend Women’s Achievements with Jin, Jiyan, Azadî,’ salute our Leader, and reaffirm our commitment to the struggle."
Sakine's life was always a struggle
The statement also paid tribute to Sakine Cansız’s legacy, who was assassinated along with Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez on January 9, 2013:
"Heval Sakine created a pioneering path in realizing the democratic, ecological, and women’s liberationist paradigm. She dedicated her life to resistance, declaring, ‘My life was always a struggle,’ and never bowed to torture.
Her fight took root in Bakur, led the Rojava Revolution, and spread hope throughout Kurdistan and the world through the philosophy of ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî.’
Sara’s reality is the indomitable essence of the Women’s Freedom Movement and the Kurdish people. Sakine Cansız means freedom, life, and struggle. Her honorable legacy is kept alive by women around the world."
The statement noted that Sakine Cansız’s line continues to guide the struggle: "Sara is a call, a contract of freedom for women. With her line, shouting for freedom against fascism is our path. We will shatter all darkness, conspiracies, and attacks with Sara’s Apoist militant line.
The resistance of Saras, Evîns, Rojbîns, Ronahîs, Zarîfes, Leyla Qasims, Zîlans, Bese Anuşes, Bêrîtans, Zeyneb Celaliyans, Arîn Mîrkans, and many others is a call to struggle for all of us who follow in their footsteps."
Every woman must take her place in the struggle for freedom.
The statement concluded with a call to all women seeking freedom to join the struggle: "Every woman who has a claim to freedom against fascism and patriarchy must take her place in this struggle. Now is the time to crown our comrades’ dreams with victory.
With this great responsibility, we invite all our people, especially women, young people, and our friends, to the 12th Sakine Cansız Women’s Festival."
